Also, is a $1 a month enough to show activity on a credit card for an account that I don't use?

Got the dreaded email from Amex. They lowered my credit limit and now my balance is over 90% of the limit! Any suggestions besides pay it all off?

Yes
Not necessarily, some banks don't report if you only owe $1 or $2.

True, but for the credit card company itself that is definitely good

Will my credit score increase if I restart to use my first or earlier card that I rarely or ever used?
no.  But keep some action on that card, because you don't want it cancelled.  'Length of credit history' is a factor in your score.

My last credit card statement printed with a $1 balance, but the automatic payment did not go through. Is there a minimum balance that needs to be on the credit card in order for the automatic payment to process?

Also, is a $1 a month enough to show activity on a credit card for an account that I don't use?
a) call to have any fees waved.  (ask sweetly)
b) Is your autopay set correctly? each month. pay the whole statement balance.

If you're paying interest, you probably want to pay it off anyway.  :)
If you're not. If you don't need a top CS for the next little while, keep things as they are.  If you're applying somewhere in the next few months, you may have to pay off half of it.

Got u but the paying it off part is my problem... I simply can't since I'm loaded with debt across multiple cc due mainly to 4 years of medical expenses. No lender wants to loan me anything close to what I need to do I'll have one bill a month vs many. I can't prove my real income... Dunno how to get out of my pickle.

They can see, and there is a CR/FR risk

Not necessarily, some banks don't report if you only owe $1 or $2.

No, some banks cancel out $1 or $2.  If they require payment of the amount, it gets reported.
