Lack of other ddf posting can be blamed on the holidays. Posting here = they were 99% going to be the second wild card for a long time. Funny that the game was pretty much over after the second batter of the game after a month of build up...

At work they are all complaining the Russell's hitting and fielding has tailed off this last month and they should make a switch. What does the great BarryG say? 

The Russell error was on a hard hit ball, and it was originally ruled a hit. He's good enough defensively to get over it.

Rumor is that he's been practicing his ground balls for a long time... It would be great if he can chip in offensively, but they're still best when he's the ss. Up the middle defense is an extremely common characteristic of championship teams. (Catcher, SS, 2nd base and CF)

Funny you should say that. I was watching the Hawks banner raising ceremony and my son tells me the Cubs are up 1-0 after the first. My response was "that game is over, next".

Also, Theo and co. know what it takes to win. They built this thing from the bottom up with that in mind. The mentality of these players and coaches will prevent that Deja Vu (as opposed to Alex Gonzales and Dusty).
That being said, what it takes to win a WS is having a consistent playoff team (7 years in a row sounds good to me). Ask the Pirates who had a great team 3 years in a row, the last two running into a brick wall (Bumgarner/Arrieta).

We were rained out Erev RH and Hoshana Raba (both really, really bad days to play ball for a few hours). I have no complaints about playing 6:15-9:15 on wild card Wednesday considering the other choices... Unfortunately, I won't be able to see much of the next two games either.

Well now that the NL Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser is over and the dust has settled on that little dustup, Jon Lester -- who is slated to start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Cardinals on Friday -- took to Twitter to offer an injury update in wake of the HBP that sparked it. Don't worry, Arrieta is fine. The ball that hit him, though? Not so much:
