Nothing wrong with stopovers if they're in interesting places.

No shame in going to OZ for a week split between CNS and SYD.

I can only be away for 1 shabbos so Ideally to leave on a sun and come back the next Thursday to maximize time. Only semi decent availability will get me there by Wed and will have to leave by Tuesday.

I went NYC-MEL-CNS-SYD and loved it. CNS is a great option to get to GBR and I'm happy I made it out there. Well worth the extra travel

Looking to book a trip to Oz and am in the very early stages  for 1.5 weeks. Im trying to arrive in 1 airport and leave from another to save time. (I definitely want to go to HTI for part of the trip) Which area should I not bother with? Meaning If I can only find availability arriving thru BNE, should I just do HTI and SYD and leave from there? Or is MEL a must?  but dont want to waist time traveling from BNE-HTI-SYD-MEL etc.

In a week and a half, you're not going to be able to do SYD + MEL + HTI + CNS.

If you can do SYD/MEL + HTI/CNS, consider it a win.

We have done all four, but  it took 2 trips.  We did CNS + HTI  and SYD + MEL (and Grampians).

Is HTI & CNS 2 diffrent trips or is just different sider of the GRB?
Don't see myself ever going back to this side of the world, which areas are a must? not into history, museums etc. I do things quickly (some water preferred)

Is this doable?
Arriving Tuesday early: MEL drive the GOR and Granpians over 2 FULL days.
Wed Late night flight to SYD-until sun
Sun-Wed either CNS or HTI

Thanks.

No, can do same trip. If you're into diving, I'd do that in CNS, whereas I'd do HTI for sightseeing, activities, beaching, etc.

You won't really get to see the full Grampians. By the time you get out of the airport, into a rental, pick up food, it'll be afternoon before you're on the road. And then you'll have to be back well in advance of the SYD flight to return car etc.

We spent were on the road from Wednesday thru Friday, including sunrise in the Grampians Friday morning which was awesome. Then Shabbas at PH.

If you have to pick between CNS and HTI, I'd do the latter.

Is the GBR doable in 1-2 days max?

Seems like in order to go to Whitsunday island and to go skydiving one would have to fly in and out of PPP. Is that correct?

Just grabbed EY F TLV-SYD. I land Tuesday morning and need to be in NY the next Thursday, so I have a bit more than a week on the ground.

I'm thinking of going straight to CNS for a few days and then heading to Melbourne for shabbos. Can go back to Syd on Sunday for a day or two before heading to NY through Asia or somewhere exciting. Any thoughts on how I should spend my time in Australia?

Pick an area and just see that. Don't try to spread yourself too thin and see too much, because you won't really get to see anything at all that way. You enjoy your time much more if you thoroughly see one area then if you try to see the whole country in a week.

From stuff I've read it seems like Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday is enough time to spend in Cairns. I could head to Melbourne on Thursday afternoon and spend the rest of the day and Friday seeing whatever is to be done there. Does that make any sense?

Sort of, except for if you're going to Melbourne the main activity that most people like to do down there is The Great Ocean Road, which you will not have time for in just two days. There's not much to see in the city of Melbourne itself. I was there from Thursday to Sunday and was quite done by the time Sunday rolled around.

From your TR it looks like you did the GOR in one day. Did you feel like that wasn't enough?

Yes, it was absolutely not enough time. I tried too hard to pack too much into a 3 week trip that I made some mistakes.

How does GOR stack up compared to GBR in CNS? How long is the minimum you need to do GOR right? And finally, would you do GOR at the expense of spending time in Sydney?

I'd do another day on the GOR (2 total) over another day in Sydney. After all, one is nature and unique, one is just another city.
