So sorry to break this bad news, but Obi announced that Google voice will stop working with obi.  I'm not a tech guy but I hope that someone will find a way that we all can continue enjoying our free phone service.
Here's a link for this announcement: http://blog.obihai.com/2013/10/important-message-about-google-voice.html?m=1

 update on Google Voice

We are rolling out a new version of the Google+ Hangouts app ( goo.gl/XkHn03 ) for Android, which includes support for SMS and MMS messages. While this is a great step forward, we still have a lot of work to do, specifically around Google Voice:

- Unfortunately, today’s update does not work with Google Voice numbers unless you’ve enabled Google Voice on your Sprint phone. But rest assured, we’re working to support SMS messages for all Google Voice phone numbers by early next year. And don’t worry, your Voice number will go unchanged.

- We hear you loud and clear: you want Google Voice phone numbers outside the US and to support MMS. We are listening and working hard to make this happen, but we need to work with carriers and this can take some time.

- Finally, we want to make Google Voice as secure as possible. There are a few third-party applications that provide calling and SMS services by making unauthorized use of Google Voice. These apps violate our Terms of Service and pose a threat to your security, so we’re notifying these app developers that they must stop making unauthorized use of Google Voice to run their services and transition users by May 15, 2014.

We know that communicating with your friends and family should be easy and that you want one app that can do it all. We’re working hard to deliver that experience for everyone.  It will take some time before Google Voice is fully integrated into Hangouts, and we appreciate your patience along the way.

I bet Obi will try it's hardest to find a way to make it work. We'll see what happens...

Enjoy it for another 6 months. I can't believe that obi couldn't make a deal with Google. I mean this is the end for their company, unless they are trying to figure out how to fix or go around this.

stolen from sd-
SIP users probably don't have to worry that much about this. There was a way before XMPP, and until Google changes the Voice API, there will be a way after it as well... How it used to be done: How to use Google Voice for free outgoing calls on an Asterisk/FreePBX system (the no-XMPP way) [iprock.com].

Keep in mind that the aforementioned method would require a SIP DID (which can easily be linked to a GV number) and a light Linux server, but that's a small compromise for what you're getting.

Since most (all?) Obihai devices can also connect to SIP accounts, the discontinuation of XMPP support doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to use your device with GV -- it just means that it will be a little more difficult.

Some useful information about OBi
Even though Google Voice don't have E911 support, you can signup for E911 yourself
Link to How to set-up 911 calling on an OBi device
http://blog.obihai.com/2011/11/ca...vices.html
Cheapest E911 provider is Anveo (at $0.8/month) http://www.anveo.com/service.asp (FREE plan and add E911)
If you are switching from POTS to Obi or other voip services, in many states the old phone line will remain active for calling 911. You just leave your phone connected and they disabled outgoing calls at the phone company computers.
if you do not want to 'dedicate' a SIP slot for E911, you can use http://www.gv911.com/ - costs $12/year
www.smart911.com - Smart911 is a free service that allows citizens across the U.S. to create a Safety Profile for their household that includes any information they want 9-1-1 to have in the event of an emergency. Then, when anyone in that household dials 9-1-1 from a phone associated with their Safety Profile, their profile is immediately displayed to the 9-1-1 call taker providing additional information that can be used to facilitate the proper response to the proper location.
Can check availability under the About page.
before you start porting your number to GV, check this first http://www.obihai.com/porttutorial.html
configuring 'single' stage dialing here - http://www.obitalk.com/forum/inde...pic=1103.0
Obi device offer a lot of powerful features like Auto Attendant (which you can setup your own Interactive response system), Call bridging, etc. AutoAttendant (AA)/Interactive Voice Response (IVR) make the Obi a bit more dynamic for eg. callback for cheap/free call while away from home, etc. And you can record your own AA message.
Do google search and look at the Obi Admin Guide for more info.

cheapest pay-per-minute is by localphone.com at 0.5 cent/minute to US numbers
MagicJack/Nettalk/Ooma can be connected to the POTS line of this obi110 - look at obitalk forum for more info on this. (in theory these are next best to free GV)
For people want alternative to GV, here are some good quality and/or low price Voips. Some of those VoIP Services offer phone number in other countries also. Remember this is a standard SIP device so you are not tie to GV and any specific Voip.
http://pbxinaflash.com/vitelity/ (Looks like Vitelity quality is gone. Read this thread in DSLReports for discussion about Vitelity quality [broadbandreports.com]
http://www.callcentric.com/ <--- many SDers and people in other Voip forum recommend this. Callcentric currently offer FREE NY phone number with free unlimited incoming calls. No monthly fee if you pick country other than US, otherwise $1.50/month 911 fee only if you pick US/Canada.

Some Voip that provide free incoming call. May want to double check and see if this information is out of date or not.
For free incoming call, you can also use IpKall. It works with Callcentric to provide free local number in Washington State and free incoming call.
http://www.ipkall.com/
Another service offer free incoming phone number
http://www.callcentric.com/dids/f...one_number
sipgate.com is dead as of 10/31/13
Here are some of the Voip that offer very low price International Calls
Onesuite and localphone offer a lot of local access number so can use it without Voip device. Those two also offer international local access number which you can use outside US. Check their website for more info.
http://www.onesuite.com (Onesuite has been around for 10+ years and consistently great quality)
- offer low price long distance
- Internet Fax
- Global Call Forwarding
- Voip phone service

Can a GV be ported to POTS?
Get a POTS lifelines.  Then fwd GV calls to that number.  On your POTS phone, program a speedial to your GV, then pause,  *, pause, 2.  This way you can make LD calls.
