Get a POTS lifelines.  Then fwd GV calls to that number.  On your POTS phone, program a speedial to your GV, then pause,  *, pause, 2.  This way you can make LD calls.
what is POTS

Sounds like only good if you are in the USA, correct?

For incoming calls in Canada you can forward gv to voxox to a Canadian number

Would be a pain though to remember to speed dial every time

seems that obihai is trying to keep themselves in the game- they are going to be coming out with an offer for $40 a year, as a replacement for the loss of GV, its not free but at $3.33 a month after all taxes, its still pretty good. Its still in the planning stages it seems- http://blog.obihai.com/2013/12/what-does-40-bucks-and-obi-device-buy.html

$25/year (I won't need more than 500 minutes a month). Cheap, but still not free

For Unlimited its actually $49.99 a year.

The $39.99 plan only Includes 2,000 minutes talk time per month.

Although it was great having Google Voice and free phone service, and I saved a lot of money (I have 2 lines :) ) But I cant complain by paying only $50 a year

Nice feature Obivoice has -

Spoof your outbound caller ID based on a number you own. Forward all your calls to a number we provide.

I was looking into options to replace my Google Voice, with keeping my number. Obviously I could try to port my number, but issue with that is, I don't want my number stuck with a different service, and decide the service is not good, or too expensive ect... I have found only one other service that is supported by Obi devices that allows spoofing your outgoing number - CALLCentric. The issue with their service is that their plan with 500 min is $6.95, 1000 min is $12.95, and Unlimited is $19.95. These prices are still cheaper than typical phone service, but not too apealing :)

Obivoice has e911, but only for the US. Trying to sign up from Canada, it makes me put in a US location. Is this a problem?

The 2 year unlimited is only $75. They have a 30 day money back guarantee anyway, so if it's terrible at least you're not locked in all the way.
