There's a thread in the FT IHG forum about someone who managed to get the Hotel Indigo Rome to open up more point nights.  But generally, I think it's exceedingly rare.

If I'm using my own ihg free night and buying one for the night after with my name on the reservation. will the hotel allow me to stay in the same room if I ask them to combine the reservation when I'm already checked in. Did anyone ever experience something like this?

Should be fine. Email the hotel before just to be sure. The last thing they want to do is move you

I shouldn't just wait until I am there? The owner of the second certificate won't be there

$610? I'm seeing $690 for 120k with the 100%. 610 makes it roughly 50 cents per, a pretty good deal. Though I tend to not buy IHG points unless I have a specific redemption in mind with availability. To each their own though

A little nooby question here...how do I book an ihg points night for a friend? (In Canada fwiw). Is there a way to add his name to the reservation? Any difference between points and credit card nights?

I don't see any way to add a name online. Do I call them?

Make sure your booking for two adults, then during booking there is an option to add guest.

Can always buy for .7cpp.  .9cpp is bad.

Stayed at both the Intercontinental times square and the Intercontinental Barclays and would definitely recommended the Barclays as a beautiful, fairly new hotel.
