Awesome DO guys! We even had a last minute OOT addition to our group :)
Really learned a lot of new stuff and tricks.
Major props to SF!
So upset that I couldn't make it out:-(. Hopefully there will be more and I can get to those. So tough to get away from work. My wife also wanted to go, but we can't leave the baby yet.

So the weather was quite uncooperative - not just record-breaking temperatures, but gloomy skies (and pouring rain for a couple of hours), so we had neither a sunset nor a sunrise :(. We did however have a ton of fun :D.

Crossing a (mostly) frozen river with freshly-harvested hiking sticks ;):

Taking the quickest way down to Blue Hen falls:

Trying to poke a larger hole in the ice to get to the water flowing behind it:

They're predicting a possible KP of 7, which means that the aurora may be visible from northern NYS.

Anyone up for a DO tomorrow night somewhere north of Albany?

Peak aurora activity is generally past 2am. So leave early evening, and head back maybe 4ish?

It's tough on a weekday, pity it isn't on motzei shabbos.:(

And remember - far too often aurora shoots are a bust. Not trying to be a party pooper, just making sure everyone understands...

I think we should shoot a cityscape on the way up just to be sure we come back with something ;)
(at least here we know which bridges actually exist :) )

I dont actually have a camera currently so would prob need to borrow one if possible. I more than anything just want to see the aurora(I know its more than likely to be a bust), seeing the aurora is very high on my bucket list.

If there's a cityscape anywhere close then we're in the wrong place for aurora.
But as long as it's clear we could get star shots anywhere dark.

This far south the aurora won't be overhead, only in the horizon. This means we need a high-altitude open area with a view due north. A lake somewhere in the Adirondacks would probably be best.

Finding a good spot is easy, finding the aurora is the hard part ;)

So like the Lake George area would be good? (I'm just trying to get a handle on how far of a drive we're talking about)

I probably should've said "on the way out." Either way, that was 65% joke, only 35% serious...
