Will do ~$100k in international travel over the next 6 months
« on: January 08, 2014, 05:33:08 PM »
Hi DDF,

I am going to do about $100,000 in international travel over the next 6-9 months. What is the best card to get? I want to get the most benefit.

I have a chase saphire preferred and a slate card currently, but looking to get a card to put all my travel related costs on.

Please let me know!

Thanks!

Ben

He can do the flights on PRG and international spending on his Saphire.

unfortunately, i need to book the tickets through an internal corporate system.... but I can use my personal card if i prefer.

I want to get a ~40-50k sign up bonus, and then have good rewards.

i have excellent credit

What will the charge show up as? If not airline related, neither SP nor PRG will be advantageous.

if you're going to do all the traveling on one airline it may pay to get the creditcard of that airline to get extras like priority boarding and free baggage

If he spends the 100k in one airline im pretty sure he will get a high status and all these benefits + much more

(If its a oneworld airline, please PM to gift me status ;)

What about lounge access?  How many flights will you be taking and how many won't have complimentary lounge access?  It might be beneficial (not necessarily from a monetary perspective) to get an AmEx Platinum card or one of the high annual fee Airline cards that grant you lounge access, so you can refresh and relax before and after your flights.  You could always cancel the card after the 9 months and at least for Amex, you'd get a prorated refund on the annual fee.

So use your existing Chase Sapphire Preferred for the travel related points and zero foreign transaction fees and the Amex for the initial signup bonus, lounge access, Global Entry (includes TSA Precheck) and several other very useful benefits.
