Is this a good desktop computer deal?
« on: January 16, 2014, 12:38:48 PM »
I've been looking for a desktop computer but have a limited budget and even more limited knowledge about computers. This is for my parents and will be used for light internet use and DVD watching, nothing major. I found a deal on craigslist for a SONY VAIO desktop PC computer and a 19 inch SONY Monitor. Both are supposedly in excellent condition. The computer comes with brand new Windows 7 Ultimate installed and features 2 dvd drives and a power chord. 1 GB Ram and 250 GB hard drive.

Is this a good deal for a 4 year old, lightly used computer? She's asking for $150.

Depends on the processor and condition... Also no Warranty when dealing with craigslist.

She says it's in excellent condition, it was only lightly used and is wiped clean. I don't know processor type. Also, being that it's 4 years old I doubt any computer is still under warranty. I'd prefer not to buy on craigslist but this is what my parents can afford right now.

I got the exact model- SONY VAIO VGC-RA840G . Do you have any thoughts on it?

P.S. I see the reviews showing it's from 2006. I'm not paying any money for a computer that's that old.

I need a good desktop for fair price, what would you recommend to get now on Cyber Monday?

Be specific about what type of use you need.  Gaming? web surfing? Lots of mathematical computations at the same time?

Thanks for replying. I need it for basic computer work, web surfing...
Ended up buying the Lenovo M710T intel core i5 @ $394. I think it's a good deal.
