Topic Wiki

find the price of the hotel AFTER TAX, mark it down..

next multiply the points required per night x these rates..

SPG: $0.018
Hyatt: $0.015
Hilton: $0.005

If the numbers are close to even than it may be more worth it to  book with a specific CC that gives X times the points at hotels.

Most if not all hotels charge a resort fee on top of any type of booking. I cant generalize & say all but most for sure
Iinm the Hyatt in newport Rhode Island didn't charge me the resort fee.

Does anyone know if spg still charges resort fee when book with points?  Any suggestions for getting it removed? Thanks.

When trying to get a upgrade with Marriott (via email as referenced upthread) is it best to ask nicely or to pull my Gold status?

What are Marriott points worth? ( I see SPG and Hyatt in the wiki) There's an SPG, Hyatt and Marriot of similar class in the area where I want to stay, all within $20 of each other, so trying to decided which points makes the most sense to use.

Marriott location I'm looking at only has rooms for rewards that are too small for my group (6 ppl).  Would emailing mgr (and mentioning Gold status) help to get them to switch or "upgrade" the room to a much larger room that is only offered for cash? I'm thinking to book the reservation first and then reference it in the request for the larger room. Any ideas/experiences would be great.

It can help, though a lot of locations won't guarantee it till check in.

I probably already redeemed over 300k Marriott, it was always more than 1cpp (factoring in the tax).

Book, ask for an upgrade and if they can't guarantee it, I guess cancel.
