I hear ya. Are these bags gate checked or do you get them plane side upon landing? With the UA card if you don't have to wait for the bags to come out it wouldn't be the end of the world.

on the discount airlines in europe, like ryanair, they make you weigh and measure your carry-on at checkin. if it doesn't pass, they make you pay to check it.

it's been a few years since i flew ryanair but back in the day you had to check in at the counter. it could have changed since then.

I imagine that they will be available planeside. You can say that at you have stuff that you need at your connecting ;)airport packed in it.

if you dont check in online & print your boarding pass they charge you like $80

I don't know what mainline means but they did it in BRU last time I was there.

And every time I fly LH or LX my carry on gets size checked in the bin. I have to squeeze it to make it fit.

I'm saying that on UA flights they generally won't give back your bag airside on a mainline plane.
