Checking In Luggage For Two Airlines
« on: March 12, 2014, 06:11:56 PM »
Is it true that if two airlines have a interline baggage agreement you can request to check in your luggage for your final destination even though the itinerary contains two separate reservations with two separate airlines (so I don't have to claim baggage and check in again)?

Yes. As long as you have a copy of your whole itin, you can request it to be interlined to your final destination.

Nice, I didn't want to believe the rep when he told me about it.

Makes life much easier.

I do it at the airport I guess. Right?

I was told the same a few days ago by Ergel. And confirmed with a AA phone agent.

Made $5K on a complicated interline itin when they destroyed my bag in 2010.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Check in agent needs to know how to do it, and be nice, or it won't happen.

Furthermore some companies have a completely different system and/or there are multiple handling agents in an airport and every airline uses another one.

A true DDFer travels just for the purpose of having travel go wrong and claim compensation/insurance.

But how in the world is bag worth $5k?

Depends on the airline and check-in agent IME.
Hawaiian for example , recently changed their policy and will no longer interline bags unless all the legs are on one ticket.

When I booked JFK-FRA-RZE, the JFK-FRA leg was with SQ for about 57,000 miles but when I wanted to add FRA-RZE it jumped up to 80,000 miles + 100 YQ, so I had a Nesoyen to just book JFK-RZE with SQ for 57,000 miles and make a separate booking with UA for 15,000 miles FRA-RZE and save miles and money, and I'll ask the checkin agent to set the bags to go all the way through, but then when I read people running into problems I just booked everything with SQ for 80,000 miles :)

Just saying...

I had SQ interline my bags with LH/OS, without even giving them my PNR, just told them and it went
