Hmmm. K.

p.s. I ask because there are two reasons why I made this thread. One, because I need a new filter. Two, because I am constantly asked for advice in this area and I embarrassingly don't know much about the subject. - - - I hope to learn-up and help my friends/neighbors with this most important issue.

"Kosher"

p.s. Although, most viruses come from "not-kosher" websites ;)

Gonna try something called PureSight - It's an Israeli company - could be wrong but I seem to remember that Phil Rosenthal recommended it as an up and coming filter...

Will report back.

I use openDNS's filter. No lag (faster according to many). If set up at the router level (what I have) applies to all devices connected to the router.
Easy to get around!

+1. I haven't looked into how the OpenDNS filter works but I am assuming that one could just configure the computer to use different DNS resolvers?

Tizku l'Mitzvos!  :)

K9 also has a time restriction feature, it is great, cuts me off at 12 every night. Just "IMO", block youtube whatever you do. SafeEyes is great but I had same issues. I have someone else administrating both filters so I can not change settings. In K9, I set the email address up as my friend's so I can not do "forgot password..."

Go to guardyoureyes.com it is a great resources for all this..

K9 has given me issues with Google/Gmail login/logout when blocking YouTube (it seems like Google is signing me in/out of YT when I log in/out of Google). It's intermittent and a few tries usually resolves it.

Anyone else experience this and/or have a suggested fix?

. . Is that for pc-if or sp-if?
I'm looking for a filter for a sp - specifically the LG optimus. Please let me know if you come across anything during your research.
Thanx

I have youtube blocked on k9 and I see that google goes through them somehow, as you say, but never had a problem. I do not recall having any issues with k9.

I tried using Rimon (I'm in Israel) its an ISP with filtering, but had a problem with my DSL phone.

If it's an ISP, wouldn't they be the DSL provider as well? (I don't mean that it would be their line, in the US with DSL it's typically the LEC's DSL line and your DSL provider leases it from them and resells it to you)

But how does OpenDNS work? You set the DNS resolvers on your router? Then all that does is provide defaults to the clients. If the client overrides with its own resolver addresses then it wont ask OpenDNS to resolve the domain anymore... Can't see why it wouldn't get around it, but I will try it at home later.
