I am very much against
BS.

You were busy how well grounded institutions and individuals are doing it. Let's hear who?

I agree its a scam. I know quite a lot about it as I had a lengthy conversation with the sleazy individual running it.
What I'm saying is that the yeshivas don't care if its a scam as long as they get their money. Which is possible if its an MLM or similiar as they believe they can't get messed over if paying by cc

This is very disheartening. Even if the yeshivos make some money on this (which is extremely unlikely) they're involved in a patently illegal and fraudulent activity - either on pumping stock, or more likely massive CC fraud.
Best case scenario - a lot of yidden lose money because of them.
More likely - we'll be seeing news about an FBI raid on a yeshiva.

The whole "make money for your shul" business, while it may not be an actual scam, is along the same lines and it doesn't strike me as proper either.... Take an unsuspecting guys personal info and mess around with it all in the name of Tzedakah?!

The famous thief behind this scam (http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3910.0) should be kicked out of our community and the RY involved should be named and shamed.
sadly it might make our community a little lot thinner
BS.

As someone involved in a Yeshiva I was approached to "invest" in this "opportunity". I immediately contacted one of the "satisfied mosdos"  and was told (obviously) stay away.
This is the response I got from the "broker":
Thank you for your concern,

I know who I'm dealing with and I know that there is no intention of foul play. In either case the only way I would let anyone do it is if they pay by CC to enable the fraud protection that the CC offers - in case its necessary.

Besides, we see how yeshivos are actually getting their money back. I dont see how you can lose.

Most of all, I know that because the originator of the deal is someone that is not known to yeshivos, there isnt a single person who put in money without doing their due diligents. We are talking about sharp responsible people who wouldn't risk $10 let alone thousands of dollars without making sure they are protected. I am just taking the info for people so we can get the deal (it has to be ONE group). As nice of guy that I am, I know that people are not throwing vasts money my way because I am nice to people.

I believe that everyone who put in money did it for the same reason I did it, the CC protection. I dont think I came across a safer investment in my life. Did you?

Please, dont trust me. Do your own HW.
This brilliant businessman spelled diligence "diligents". Lol!
When somebody thanks you for a favor you've done, respond "my pleasure", not "no problem".

The real question is, should we be shorting sgmz based on what they are doing

I'm not saying its the same, the point I'm making is that there are thousands of nave people out there. Most of those people have a very limited understanding of how their credit/and credit card spend affect them. Being that that's the case it gives these joes a very easy target, whatever the scam may be.

Wow, these links and a simple Google search bring a whole new meaning to the saying, "when there's smoke, there's fire"
