Camera troubleshooting
« on: April 29, 2014, 05:14:08 PM »
My sisters Sony Nex 5n starting making trouble. I haven't seen the issues live but she says when scrolling through pics it will all of a sudden get stuck and after turning it on it won't take pictures. Seems like the software went haywire. Any ideas?

Software doesn't go "haywire" (this ain't no Windows machine :P).

It's most probably a messed up SD card or a hardware issue. Unfortunately there's not enough clear info in your post to take figure out what's wrong...

Whenever a camera (any camera) starts acting weird:

1) Format the memory card. Back it up first, as everything will be permanently deleted.

If that doesn't work then:

2) Reset the camera to factory settings (through the menu).

99% of camera problems could be fixed this way. Of course this doesn't include physical damage (drops or spills, etc.).

The lens on my Nikon Coolpix doesn't open all the way when I turn on the camera and I need to pry it open with my fingers in order to get it to work. Is the lens removable or is there perhaps a quick fix?

I don't use it much however I need a 2nd body for an upcoming trip for wide angle pics.

Your camera has erectile dysfunction, which the #1 P&S killer. I'll cost you much more to fix than to buy a new camera.

Oh well, it did serve me well while it lasted. Funny thing is it still works fine it's just a pain to manually open the lens every time.

Found this online:

Camera displays Error 00
This error message indicates a problem with lens installation. Shut the camera off and carefully remove the lens. Make sure that the mount connections on both the camera and the lens are not damaged and are free of debris. If so, remount the lens and power the camera back on.
