Looking for a new set of luggage
« Reply #40 on: April 15, 2012, 03:34:07 AM »
Hi all,

My wife and I travel quite a bit - even more since I discovered DansDeals.  ;D We live in Israel, and fly to the USA an average of 2 or 3 times a year, plus the occasional trip from Israel to Europe (e.g. Switzerland), as well as the occasional domestic trip within the USA (e.g. Arizona).

We are looking for a decent set of luggage for our journeys. Nothing fancy; just a really, really good set - durable, quality suitcases that don't weigh too much when empty (airlines are so stingy on luggage these days, it's a shame to waste weight on the body of the suitcase). I don't know much about luggage - mo :ost of the suitcases we've had until now have been the El Cheapo kind you find on the sidewalk in front of discount stores on 13th ave. in Boro Park. Now I'm looking to get away from that, and make a quality investment. We probably need 4 suitcases, each capable of holding 50-70 lbs, as well as two smaller ones (hand luggage size).

Anybody have any recommendations? And it wouldn't hurt if I could get a decent deal on the luggage, too... ;)

Thanks!

I like traveling with the $30-$40 30" long duffels that Costco sells.  Pretty light, can fit a ton of stuff inside, and they can fit into smaller spaces than traditional luggage.

How do you pack clothes like dress pants, dress shirts, suits ect without wrinkling them? Curious how people here pack these items in regular suitcases as well.

Airtran, it was prob. like 70 linear inches.

Same here they measured my suitcase and saw it was to big and charged me 50$ so  when I got home I emailed them saying I was not happy with their customer service and that my suitcase was barley an inch larger than its allowed an the refunded the 50$

I had a suitcase that was standard size and airtran tried to charge me.   When I told them it was standard size he told me it might have been but whatever I had in the front pocket was making it bulge and causing it to be oversize.  Needless to say i removed it from the front pocket put it elsewhere and avoided the charges but it left me with a bitter taste.

For years I've been using a carry-on garment bag such as this one, its my best travel companion, a good piece will never fail you and any man can fit virtually all his clothes, including at least one pair of shoes in it. It's he best option for suits and hanger shirts IMO. Also, pack your suit and shirts with the thin plastic than comes with the dry cleaners.

I just bought this set on Vente Privee, totally forgot about the fact that thicker shell suitcases are heavier, Duh, I hope not by much..
Although I do take a considerable amount of road trips as well..

Will provide feedback as soon as I get them. As of now the status on VP reads "Dispatch expected between 5/2/2012 and 5/7/2012"... Ordered 4/10, NUts!

Looking for new luggage. lightweight and quality.
« Reply #48 on: June 04, 2012, 02:55:10 PM »
I'm looking to buy a new set of quality luggage. up till now I have only had the cheapest possible, however, now that I travel quite a bit and the stricter weight restrictions it seems liker time to "invest" in something of quality and lightweight.
I don't have a set price as I am not sure the going rate etc.
Anyone know of a deals out there?
thanks

Couldn't find a better thread to post in.

Looking for new luggage. Just had my four year old Samsonite bags returned to Costco for a full refund. Unfortunately it is not really possible to get from Costco again so looking for something more durable at a good price.

Anyone have experience with these?

Vente privee has American tourister today for a decent price.  Especially if you're looking for something to buy with a citi Amex.

I dont know that they are good - but target has them for $65
http://www.target.com/p/u-s-traveler-new-yorker-4-pc-luggage-set-gray/-/A-12046473?ref=tgt_adv_xasd0001&AFID=Performics_DealsOfAmerica.com_0004c835040527500ae0894f4900606f&LNM=Primary

Thanks for the heads up bought two of them
$65 - $5 off link on evreward.com - 5% Target card + NY tax = 62.04 - 9.5% cash back from TCB = total of just under $57, and easily returnable to Target if I don't like the quality.

How much (I'm no more subscribed to VP, hence I cant see the price)?

Pretty good deal, by all counts (even for Chinese junk).
Interesting that Discover is giving double the % of the Target card!
BTW, what's TCB?  Thanks.
