best luggage
« on: August 01, 2008, 07:58:58 AM »
I want to buy a set of luggage for about $1000 -  anyone have any opinions on the best company or deals. I was told by a store that briggs and riley is the best, with a lifetime warranty- but they are very expensive is it worth it? any ideas where to get good deals?

http://www.tumi.com/ is hands down the best luggage you just might not want to pay so much, woodberry commons has a Tumi outlet with better prices if your really interested

Just buy your luggage on Kingston Avenue (or your local equivalent). The way baggage handlers throw luggage around, I wouldn't expect any suitcase to last more than one trip lol

thats why I wanted to know if it was worth spending a little more one time on briggs and riley and then having a lifetime warranty

If you keep having to pay return shipping then the warranty defeats it's purpose.

Also, lifetime warranties are usually limited (i.e. Briggs and Riley will only replace your damaged luggage x amount of times).

I like traveling with the $30-$40 30" long duffels that Costco sells.  Pretty light, can fit a ton of stuff inside, and they can fit into smaller spaces than traditional luggage.

Do they have wheels?

Dan, is this the one you mean
http://www.costco.com/Browse/ProductSet.aspx?Prodid=11469069&search=duffel&Mo=1&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=duffel&Ntt=duffel&No=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1

I usually buy these:
http://www.amarobags.com/product-p/45341.htm
(ignore the minimum order- you can talk them into it)
My local costco has a different brand and a better looking bag, but yes, that's the idea.
And because it's from Costco they'll stand behind the bag.

How much do the Amaro bags weigh and how do you order just 1 or 2?

I'll have to weigh them when I get a chance. I just tell them that I want to try and sell a few pieces and see how they sell. I was able to pick them up locally from their warehouse. But cosco looks just as good.

I like that the Amaro's are 34" long.

Right, that is very good. Whatever the official airline dimensions are, I've never had an issue with these bags. I've actually used 36 or 38" bags before and also no one said anything...

Generally you're allowed 62 total linear inches.

I see now that the Amaro's are less tall and are narrower than the Costco bags...if you can check the weight on them with a luggage scale that would be great!

Amaro=61 total linear inches
Costco=60 total linear inches

Have you ever seen an airline agent pull out a tape measure?
