Topic Wiki

This is the thread for all random/general questions about Southwest. The official airline code for Southwest is WN as SW was taken by Air Namibia, but many people on the forums refer to Southwest as SW since no one talks about Air Namibia ever.

For questions about any of the SW CC's, see here.
For questions about the SW Companion Pass, see here.
For questions about auto-checkin to SW flights, see here. (Follow the wiki to learn how to set it up.)

That's what I figured.

Better Q:
My wife (who is my CP) needs to fly alone. I have travel funds that are linked to my name and it won't let me use them on her res. If I book the ticket for myself (use the travel funds) and add my wife as my CP and then I just skip the flight, would that work? She wouldn't lose her ticket if I don't show, correct?

But what would happen? She won't be allowed to checkin?

WN boarding systems check that CP holder checked in at jetway. If not, companion will be denied boarding.

They're not idiots.

Do you mean they want to see that I boarded before she is allowed to board? I'm pretty sure we've boarded at the same time before and I handed her boarding pass to the agent before mine.

can she use the CP's boarding pass?
I would think they look at the name.

How would that help? Even if would work, and she wouldn't get thrown in jail, WN will simply charge him his travel funds, which he's lookig to avoid.

The reconciliation happens before doors close, AFAIK.

Very risky and dishonest, but could work: she finds a random passenger who did not check luggage about to board the same flight and gives him your boarding pass. The other passenger can then try for a refund or to use the funds for a later flight.

If you have an androgynous or uncommon religious name you should be fine.  Good luck finding a random passenger who is willing to go in on these shenanigans though.

You get to board in between A&B (although I think officially only if you have children under a certain age - not sure what age).

Yeah, too much of a to-do.

I'll be at the airport going on a different flight. I can't just checkin at the SW desk with her and then just not board? Even if they do a reconciliation before the doors close, what are they going to do - kick her off the flight?

Daaaang. Have you heard of any reports of this or is it an assumption? I wonder if I can get my travel funds extended. Or else I'll just have to take off from work and fly somewhere Southwesty before February.

Wow, considering that Southwest does not assign seats, that could be tedious if she does not come forward when called.

Can't you both check in together, put the luggage under your name, then after you are both through security what happens if she tells them that she won't be able to fly all of a sudden but that you still want to fly. then she flys on your name? probably get you arrested if you get caught?

After waiting so long, Southwest is finally starting up the direct LGA-DAL flights (Nov 2)

What's crazy is the amount of miles you can use for such a trip.
I see Nov 3-5 pricing out at 12,112 miles round trip direct both ways.
Other Airlines get you into dfw at 20k BA miles or 25k for other airline miles.
Always use an Amex, you'll thank me one day.

First time hearing of this airline called Southwest? They have a revenue based frequent flyer program.

but until Nov 2,you would not be able to fly direct for so little.
Point wasn't to bring a new airline to your attention, nor was it to tell you that they are starting a new route. And wasn't to inform about their program either.
Just pointing out that it's finally here, and it's awesome
