Looks good. Any negative ramifications by installing this?
(with applications, connections, programs, people/companies thinking we are in an unwanted country than where we really are, etc...)

Slows down internet, obviously.
Technically your information is now vulnerable, as it is passing through another computer.

I downloaded it and set it up. Google reports the IP as being different, but tracert doesn't show the data going through the VPNGate adapter like it shows it should in their tutorial. Is it working?

Within the same browser I don't think so but you can have chrome with one and Firefox with anther. Chrome and Firefox usually have their own proxy settings so if you have a proxy to use, you can manually set each one separately.
