Sorry for went you went through. You flew on a international flight with a kid arriving 90 minutes before the flight. This is to short, if you have ID issues. The same goes for boarding. Why wait until 2 minutes before cut off time, if you have a child and have a ticket with issues... Especially on the way back you should have known better and arrived earlier....
When you book a UA miles ticket, it  takes them time to ticket it, probably that the reason the first agent could not find a valid ticket.
I feel bad for you, but stuff happens....

1) I didn't realize the mistake until my wife's ticket didn't scan at the AA ticketing gate.
2) I've flown NY-YYZ plenty of times and 90 mins is more than enough time.
3) Nothing about having my son there slowed us down.
4) Because the front ticketing agent didn't make an issue i thought wed be fine. Thus, waiting to board.
5) The tickets for the way back were confirmed on Friday, never imagined they'd cancel on me.

I didn't know ant better at the time.

I plan on sending this to the airlines.... Anyone know the best way to get it to their attention? Or should i just send it through the regular "customer relations" page ?

First, on the way to LGA i got 2 tickets (NO EZ-Pass, and expired insurance cards) for accidentally traveling in the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel. (formerly Battery Tunnel) HOV & EZ-Pass lane without an EZ-Pass. Clearly an accident because i was trying to make my flight in LGA, which is the opposite direction. I made an honest mistake and thought it was for both HOV (3+) and EZ-Pass.. not understanding you needed both.

Update: Just recently had my court date for this.. Had to pay $140 for the EZ-Pass ticket ($50 for ticket and rest for court fees). So we can add that to the total...  ::)

I feel so ripped off.... My total cost for the trip was:

27, 000 British Airways Avios + $162.60 for the original 3 tickets
37, 000 United Miles + $232.50 for the flights to Toronto
$ 289.90 for my wife’s return flight

= $685.00 and 64,000 frequent flier miles.

Update: After sending in letters, i got back the BA miles and some United. I dont recall all the details.

Still cant believe i didn't know about the United close in fee trick at the time...

Just read this because of the bump.

I have booked AA using Avios quite a few times already. Have had multiple incidents where there was some sort of issue with the reservation, and It becomes a whole balagan. The AA agenta always gave us such attitude as if the problem were our fault.
On top of that, each time it was when I had my kid with me....
Life is as good as you make it...

We just keep things simple. My wife's legal name never changed, and we never have issues (I once had a travel agent who knows me personally issue a ticket for my wife using my last name, but I had that corrected as soon as I got the ticket and saw his error).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
