Specifically unlocked? What's your budget? 4g? Which provider are you using?

Straight talk or metro pcs or tmobile.
4g and 3G (getting 2 phones and 1 may have to be 3G)

Is the Moto G worth considering?

Yes, it's a very solid budget phone. Not all models have a micro SD slot and LTE, so if you want those, make sure you get the right one.
However, according to Wikipedia, "the Moto G is available for Verizon, Republic Wireless, Boost Mobile, Sprint (Sprint Prepaid), Cricket Wireless, U.S. Cellular, StraightTalk and Consumer Cellular customers." (Straight Tall probably means on Verizon).

Another vote for Metropcs l70.  Don't buy it in store they wont let u walk out with just the 50 dollar phone. You have to wait till it comes in stock online and they sell it quick.  They have free shipping label back for returns so shoot first and ask questions later. Phone is than easily unlocked to other gsm networks via ebay seller for approx 2 bucks.

Would love to see this device in person.  Looks like a really nice option for those that like smaller devices.

I'm looking for something ~$200. Decent camera, accurate gps, good battery life.  No heavy apps, like games or videos. Just things like Gmail whatsapp waze bank apps etc. Thinking about one of the new Nokias coming out (5.1 3.1 2.1). Does anyone have one of the models that these are an upgrade of?

Consider the new Motorola Moto G6. I think it is a bit better specced than the Nokia 5.1 and you also have the benefit of CDMA and Project Fi network support, should you ever want.

See here for details: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9002&idPhone2=9000&idPhone3=9214

The G6 has more RAM and a better processor, splash resistant, dual primary camera (which is usually better though it's less mega pixels).

The G6 play is more similar to the Nokia 5.1 in the RAM, processor, and camera department. But has a lower resolution screen then the G6 and the Nokia.

Practically speaking, for what I need it for does it matter? Will one last longer than the other?

All carrier compatibility is something that can be useful at one point.

Splash resistance is certainly something that can help the phone last longer.

I agree. I'm going with moto over nokia. I was asking as far as g6 or g6 play.

Performance and better camera will eventually make a difference (although it is very hard to pinpoint)
