My last pair of glasses cost $2 on Coastal, including the thinned lenses. Who pays a lot of money for glasses these days?... Suckers
There are two things where I will not compromise on quality and comfort: shoes and eyewear. My feet carry my whole body, and my eyes allow me to function in this world.
That being said, I can see paying a few hundred for lenses (if prescription presents itself as such - count yourself lucky if your prescription is low and simple) and good coating (that enables better vision). But when it comes to the frame I never paid any attention to brand names. Whatever is comfortable and looks good, works for me.
I've tried Mephisto shoes once, thinking that there might be some justification for the price, but I am back to Ecco for better comfort and durability.
