AA - Lets you hold for 5 days if more than 21 days to departure. 21 to 7 days they will hold for 3 days. Less than 7 days 24 hours.

USAirways - Lets you hold for 3 days - even within 21 days

United - In Feb United officially stopped allowing hold on award flights - They do offer FareLock which cost $9.99 for 3 days, $14.99 for 7 days on a domestic ticket

there is a workaround by selecting to purchase using your Paypal account and then not signing in - not sure how long that hold will last?

Installing DoNotTrackMe workaround - Only works if you don't have enough miles and the United award includes at least one segment on an airline other than United. learn more

If you have a hold on a round trip, can you change return even though departure is no longer available?

IINM for AA mileage tickets, 21 days before, you can hold for 5 days and the closer to flight day, the shorter the possible hold time.

IIRC, I was trying to make a reservation within the week and they said they can only hold for 24 hours.

I updated the Wiki. Thanks.

I have put a number of tickets on hold with USAirways the last few days, and have had different agents give conflicting information about whether the 3 day hold is for exactly 72 hours or till midnight of the 3rd day? Anyone know?

Also, when I mentioned to the last agent I have a different reservation on hold that I won't be needing, she said its good I mentioned that because the system can cancel one if there are multiple holds. True?

I also had agents giving me conflicting info about whether they can book a flight that doesnt show up on USAirways website but does on AA.com. 1st agent said if not on website can book. 2nd looked up flight, and said its against routing rules. 3rd put on hold. They seem like a competent group! Sure to be a great asset to AA!

Anyone know if USAirways will cancel a hold if I make a 2nd hold for a similar ticket?

My 1st hold expires tonight, but I don't know if Ill be able to confirm. There is another option but not as ideal, that would give me another 3 days to decide.

they will not
Just a data point. Partner award tickets through Dividend miles can be taken out of hold on the final day before the 3 days are completed
