this is a tv show not a real court they give pay both parties to come on and pretend they are fighting.

it's a medium long clip (~14 mins) but well worth it

two frummies claim their $3,000 sheitle was ruined by the dry cleaners and want their money. The judge figures out they are lying and this is one of those huge chillul Hashems and a good lesson for those watching

Its not completely true. The way most of these courts work is that they just pay the 35 to 50 dollar court fee and the also pay if the winner gets money instead of the loser. So for instance in this case the jews get no money

So had Heidi won the show would have paid the three thousand dollars? And if Heidi lost the show pays fifty dollars? Is that even legal?

To answer my own question, yes it is completely legal because it isn't a real court. It is arbitration binding by contract. Read the details about compensation at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_People's_Court

It seems both the Spanish couple and Heidi walked away with $500 each. Had Heidi won she would have walked away with $3000 and the Spanish couple with $50. Guess we may see a lawsuit against the show if it turns out the judge was actually lying about the phone call. Unless Heidi stupidly signed away the right to sue the show.

However the company he was suing said no first because of terrible pr
