You clearly don't want it badly enough.

Question for you: Would you recommend my wife go out without a tichel/hijab? When I've brought up the DXB/AUH topic to her, that seems to be her sticking point. That, and her overprotective but not-entirely-rational motherly concern for bringing our son to an arab country.

Huge mistake. Start convincing her now.

This is Mrs. AJK at the Mosque. Was breathtaking. (Both seeing the Mosque and seeing her like that :P)

Thanks great! I'll work on convincing her now. I think she'll come round easily enough.

I'd think that the way frum women dress would be particularly unoffensive there.

For the most part, yes. I'm talking about sheiltel vs hijab. Not sure why she'd want to wear a sheitel in 115 degree heat, though...

Does your wife cover her hair usually? If so, just wear a sheitel, they have no idea.

If she doesn't cover her hair, are you asking if she should because she's in AUH? Of course not, 75% of the place are ex-pats who don't wear any head cover or religious Muslim garb.

Well that picture didn't convince her. She's also concerned about bringing a baby into a mosque (not quite sure why). I still have 6+ months though...

I'll bring up the conversation again, but the ball will be in God's court, as the next day's A380 flight currently has no saver availability.

I still don't get why people want to go visit a mosque (I mean, I understand it may be beautiful and everything...)

Well that's basically the only reason.

I think you missed the point of my comment (I guess I was too vague). I fully understand why it's a cool experience. Just seems odd

Yeah. Same way I'd find it odd that someone would want to visit the duomo in Florence

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Personally I didn't have a desire to see the inside of the duomo in Florence (or any city in Italy really), but for me that's because church's (or cathedrals (duomo is Italian for cathedral) are places of ע״ז-ish (ie you can't visit one according to some opinions which I happen to hold of). Also there are shuls you can see in Italy that were made in the same style, like in Rome and Florence. Since there are no shuls in Arabia, I do really want to see the mosque, especially the one in AUH, since it's supposed to be the biggest one in the area. No one says you can't visit a mosque; in fact quite the opposite, you can even daven there. That's just my opinion.

I'm aware of the chiluk between Christianity and Islam (Rav Chaim apparently held that Christianity is A"Z). Still seems odd to me. Maybe I'm off

I don't think you're off. I thinks it's a valid opinion. Some people have no desire. Others try to rationalize going in churches. Then there are those in between who don't care in general, but for famous buildings, like the Sistine Chapel or the AUH mosque, they want to go in. I'm in the last category.
