They're forcing people who want it to also buy an iphone. That really limits their market potential. Close to 85% are already on Android.

Now that Apple has invented the smartwatch, it's amazing to see all the other android manufacturers suddenly pretend they had the idea over a year ago.

Have you ever adjusted the time on your watch whilst wearing it on your wrist?

I haven't,  because it's quite difficult to manipulate the crown with a wrist in the way.

Did you notice there wasn't a single demo with the watch on a wrist?

A totally unrelated question; can this be worn on Shabbos as a timepiece? Assuming one turns off all notifications,  it would be similar to the calculator watches of the 1990's.
From the few minutes I watched, I do remember seeing a demo on wrist, where he asks his friend about going for dinner and the sushi, no?

Seeing the videos of it sure makes me want to buy one. Though I always first go into an apple store & check everything out before buying.

TimT, what makes you want to buy one?

I'm not asking in a defensive way, I really want to know what is it about this watch that makes you want to spend $350+ on it.

Link for one fitness band/heart monitor that has that capability?
It's easy to build a fitness monitor. Its much harder to integrate that technology into a doctors health software system.

It's very hard to build a eco-system around a product. Apple is different because they've built up
(with help of 3rd party developers) tremendous ecosystems whether for the iPhone, iPad, or iTunes.

I like cool gadgets. I would wait till the price goes down a little, though.

A) Nothing about a heart attack alert system, what were you coming to prove?

B) The ecosystem is far from created yet, as proven from your own article:
"Scripps’ Topol called the announcement an important but “baby” step toward making data-powered medicine a reality. “It’s the future,” he said. “But we’ve got a long way for this to become routine.” Integrating data into medical records can be clunky. Topol’s patients, after all, must still email him screenshots of their information before it can be put into their records."

As I commented,
"Its much harder to integrate that technology into a doctors health software system."

Again, this is also not what I mentioned, though it is a step towards that.

Seems like the Tzomet institute is making a 'kosher' version that'll sense shabbos, etc.

Is this for real? Looks like satire to me.

The blog is run by a Rav in Israel and I have no reason to think it's satire.
Is it beyond the thinkable?

Is it beyond the thinkable?

"To alleviate the Shabbat concerns of the AppleWatch, and to encourage the large market of religious Jews who will rush to buy Apple's latest offering, Apple reached out to the Zomet Institute in Alon Shvut outside Jerusalem"

"Large market of religious Jews"?  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ROFL

"Apple reached out"? Keep dreaming.

Which religious Jews? The ones who hold annual iPhone smashing ceremonies? The ones who say that the iPhone is satan?

Let's say there are 1.2 million Shabbat-observant Jews in the world, how many of them would buy the Apple Watch? 50,000? Of those 50,000, how many wear watches on Shabbos? 20,000?

Apple sold 150 million Iphones in 2013, do you think they would "reach out" to a company and bend over backwards to support a small group of Orthodox Jews?

Yes, this is certainly beyond thinkable. So much so, that the person who wrote the article was trying to be funny.
