I had sometimes that if the wire is replaced it works. If the wire has a box by the plug it’s usually there where it gets burnt and the appliance is not damaged.

Try opening the appliance if it's not to big and complicated to open and take a peak inside to see if the kishkes are fried rather then wasting your time replacing wires to find out the whole machine is gone.
 Curios to know did you use a converter to allow the use of an american 110V appliance?

You mean to say "check if the 220v is going straight to the appliance or if there is a transformer in the middle. If there's a transformer then the appliance may be OK but the transformer may need replacing."
If it's just a matter of replacing a transformer then just look for a local one (220v input) which would match your appliance on the output side.

I plugged a coffee make in with a small converter that only works for heating elements. It smoked a bit, so I quickly pulled the plug. I now have a heavy duty transformer that should work. Could the coffee maker potentially wreck the transformer (if it was badly damaged) if I try plugging it in?
