$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Comments? Specifically on the last paragraph.

Quote
Around the same time they’re making this change — carrying the miles at a higher value on their books — they say that award availability is going to get much better.

This makes perfect accounting sense.

They will be forced to show a much higher liability for the miles. That will result in worse earnings numbers. To offset the liability, they need to unload miles, either by making more miles expire, or by encouraging redemptions.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

A good way to get a refund is to try to rebook your flight that maybe in say hurricaine or snow storm season and try to connect with cities that have high rate of cancelations example CX JFK HKG try changing to  LGA ORD HKG in FEB etc and if there are any flight cancelations or delays you can refund for free.

Last Friday, I redeemed AA miles for two round trip tickets DCA-LAX-DCA for 20,000 each way per person (AAnytime awards). Saver awards weren't available at the time.
Today, a saver award became available for an Alaska LAX-DCA flight at 12,500 miles.

I called AA and asked if I can change the AA LAX-DCA flight to the Alaska flight and get the difference of 7500 miles (X2) back, and they said there would be a redeposit fee of $150 for the first ticket, and $25 for the 2nd ticket - total of $175.

A) is there any way around paying the redeposit fee? I asked a supervisor and was told no. Should I try a different agent? (I am a Citi AA cardholder it that helps.)
B) Is it worth it for me to pay $175 to get a total of 15,000 AA miles redeposited to my account?

TIA

For the second time in a few months for me AA does not see same availability as BA on IB flights. Is there some call center I should be calling or is that just a fact of life that IB flights even though available to be booked with BA cannot always be booked with AA?

Any recent data points on getting miles redeposited with no fee for 5 minute schedule change? Have 3 separate reservations for 5 seats and don't want to pay crazy money to cancel and redeposit

A few months ago, I was rushing on Motzei shabbos to try catch the last flight out (to make a funeral in LHR). On my way to the airport, my wife booked me and a cousin I was with on an AA flight, but it was too close to the flight and couldn't be ticketed until we got to the airport. When we got there, the flight was closed.

I assumed as no ticket was issued it would not cost me any miles. But the miles where taken out of my account and they are telling me I can pay to get them reinstated or just fly the same route within a year.

Is that correct? Even if no ticket was ever issued?

Very interesting point. I would hope that it happens. I have over 200K AA miles that I won't even bother with. I stick with UA / Jetblue on most of my redemptions. I still think that AA is in a race to the bottom among US carriers.

Keep in mind SPG takes a little bit of time to transfer to AA, it's not instant.

Booked 1 RT for 40k and 1 OW for 20k in my AA Account and 1 RT for 40k in another. Price has gone down on both segments so I could get 22.5k back for the $150 initial fee plus $25 for the segment. The other account would be 15k miles back for $150. I tried HUCA numerous times to see if they could waive even a portion of the fees but they keep saying the policy is that the $150 has to be charged per account. Anyone have any luck getting this fee waived? Keep HUCA? At the end of the day, I'll probably cave because I am buying miles for less than 1cpm but still.

is there a way to earn exec plat just by spending on your card without any paid flights? if you churn the business and personal barclay aa you can get 3 eqd for 25k spend adn earn your way to 12k , which is the required amount for plat statues. Is that enough or do you also need eqm? thanks
