I do 50 wine dinners a year, I put nothing on a menu unless I can be sure.

Frankly I dont care about my restaurant opinion credibility. I was taught how to cook by isaac bernstein, I grew up eating leftovers and leared to love foie gras, charcuterie

Actually my wine diner with carmel dec 12 10 courses 19 wine, the CEO of Rothschild champagne stayed my whole dinner, this is a guy that eats in Michelin star restaurants

Dixie eats is next to my office, I went in to see, they sell burgers, I got one, it was OK.. this isnt a bleeping snack machine, its a restaurant.

Maybe they have good fried chicken, good for them, sell fried chicken only if you cant deliver


Harbor Grill Bistro IMHO is the only great kosher restaurant in miami

btw it was our mutual friend with cleveland ties who ordered the izzy burger and said it sucks, and yes his burgers are better than 90% of kosher restaurants

No one questioned your ability to know whether the burger was good. They questioned whether you extrapolation from the burger to the restaurant overall brings your judgment of the establishment into question. Can you name an establishment where every single menu item is tops?

While you can run 50 dinners a year to your liking, you can't run a normal restaurant business like that.

I love every item at Harbor Bistro though I don care for the fries. A lot of my friends rate it better than Nobu, etc, le marais and more.

A burger is simply ground beef, its very easy to excel in. For me, going out for a burger the draw is of ideally fresh ground beef, the extras and the specialty of the item.

The burgers make up 20% of dixie's menu, damn right they should be great..

Sorry, but if you go to a smokehouse like Izzys and judge the place by their burger than you have zero credibility.
If restaurants only served signature dishes then people would complain about the lack of variety. The burgers are on the menu for people who don't like smoked meat and somehow find themselves in a smokehouse.

Stupidest thing I ever heard, a smoke house can serve just smoked food's and excel. Padding your menu with mediocre items is dumb.

I did a 10 course dinner and aimed for variety, I tried a mellon proscuitto and it was either a huge hit or a huge miss, depends whom you asked.

Certainly you cannot appeal to everyone's palate, but that's never an excuse to have mediocre food.

A good to incredible burger is one of the easiest things to make. Further, a burger is a serious dish up there with Steak and ribs, you just dont know real gourmet food so you consider a burger to be a cheap menu filler

Any ways, look back at the menu, you'll see burgers a huge portion of the menu

I know someone that went there got the salmon and said it was dry and overcooked, and that the restaurant may as well be serving McDonald's food it's so bad. I am sure you see where they are coming from...

Harbor bistro burger is awesome as is their Salmon. I've eaten at harbor with over 100 people who all were amazed including  Menachem israelivitch head of royal wine Europe who says it gives Paris restaurants a run for their money.

In an ideal world, a restaurant excels at every item on the menu. This is the minimum for Michelin rated restaurants.

But in the kosher world, we get fed like peasants, sure not every dish every time will be perfect and certainly not everyone will like that version of dish.

But this apologetic excuse making is what hurts us, if we had normal restaurant critics in the kosher world, stuff would be properly judged and restaurants would have to own up.

Though to be honest, the prices at the bistro are ridiculous, I'd say they should be 15-20% lower, maybe more, like pulled beef ravioli at $18 is really a lot but that dish is incredible, so in reality you can't put a price on perfection.

 I don't think Izzy's has any interest in trying to be a Michelin starred restaurant, what he is trying is to have the best smoked food possible and by pretty much all accounts he succeeded at that. The fact he has a burger on the menu so as to have variety for when groups come in to eat is a normal concept for any restaurant trying to please their guests. And if that burger isn't the greatest burger in the world I'm not sure why anyone would be shocked.

I dont need or want credibility. I simply don't eat out, except to Harbor Bistro, occasionally to a few others.

I don t do one night tastings,  I do dozens of dinners in and outside a restaurant, with restaurants and private chefs.

Whether you want to quantify this bragging is your problem, i'm a humble person and use names merely to put things in prospective.

An Israeli grill can have 50 items and be ok to great on stuff... Same for a cafe style food.

A restaurant should excel at every item on the menu.  Maybe it's not their strongest point, but its unacceptable to say things are just there to pad the menu.

Milt's is a smokehouse and makes an incredible smoked brisket ground beef burger, your argument is therefor baseless

If a restaurant has a $250 prix fix 8 course dinner and 1-2 courses sucked, you could not argue well, they had to pad the menu!! It would be unacceptble

Who orders a burger in a fry house ? me, it was on the blasted menu!

Who really cares what a restaurant stands for, excel at it on all menu items or you are a sub-par joint.

I heard it's the best fried food Miami ever had. With amazing fried chicken and wings.

And if I get a hot dog and it tastes like its a store bought 50 cent hot dog, well damn its my fault for having the nerve that an 8$ hot dog aught to be great ?!?!

I went to house of dog twice and I hated it. Beers were way over priced and the burger and hot dogs were not even KD quality.

I go to places wanting to like them, I recognize i'm a tiny speck of their customer base, so be it. I patronized Foozo for years and I loved what he offered, Wood fire brick oven pizza at $10!

Im not even expecting anyone to agree with my palate, I detest the notion that a restaurant can just add mediocre items to their menu and expect to be taken seriously.

If you were a hot shot lawyer but not enough suits, could you wear sweat pants to court ?

Just stayed at  Turnberry Isle and I was very impressed with it, I heard a lot of good reports here, but didn't realize it would be such a gorgeous resort with beautiful rooms.

Great option for anyone that doesn't need to be on the beach.

Any kosher food within walking distance? Like up to 10 minute walk...
