JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good.

2. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good.

3. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff.

4. Kosh: Chocolate souffle is good.

5. Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce, their pastas are good as well.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark.

What is MATCHING through BETTERBIDDING on Hotwire?
betterbidding has pinned most of the hotels so you match up the amenities, location, and star rating with their list to figure out which hotel it is.

Works pretty well too! Ive done it successfully many times with priceline. It helps you figure out what you'll get if you bid X dollars on a specific star rating in a specific area.

But how can you know, that x dollars gets you x hotel? Prices at hotels change from day to day, or week to week.

But how can you know, that x dollars gets you x hotel? Prices at hotels change from day to day, or week to week.

You dont know for sure...it is a forums where people report back what they bid and what they got...you sort of watch the trends...if 7 people bid on a 3 star hotel in Manhattan for X price within 1 week and they all get the same hotel...your chances of getting it as well are pretty good. Check it out. Betterbidding.com, it works.

They have other shtick as well. Such as they provide a list of which hotels priceline uses in some areas and what star rating they fall into. So you know that if you bid on a 3 star hotel in X area, chances are you will get one of those hotels.

Additionally, you can know that the adjoining area (where you dont want to stay) does not have ANY "4 star or higher hotels". So if you just bid $65 on a 4 star or higher and got denied and now you need to raise your bid AND add an area. So add THAT area nearby which we now know does not have any "4 star or higher hotels" (based on the list) and you know you wont get stuck there...and raise your bid a few dollars. check out that site for more info

you can figure out the hotel only with hotwire.
you can only narrow it down to a couple on priceline as it doesn't show you ammenities so you know 4* in x area will get you a,b, or c etc.

Priceline will give you the hotel that costs them the least for those nights - nothing to do with how much you spend  - they will profit a couple of $ more or less.

I know how horrible the Four Points is, and I read all the horrible comments on this site and on tripadvisor.  Le'mmaseh, they told me that my gold status would get me upgraded to a relatively newly renovated oceanfront suite on a high floor.

Apparently the renovations on 9th and 10th floors are really nice (plasma TVs, new bathrooms, new furniture).  And the balconies are nice.  4,000 points + $60 (almost 4 CPM) is a really good deal this time of year.

1. Has anyone seen the renovated rooms who can confirm the degree of upgrade?
2. Would anyone wanna trade my starpoints/BA miles/AA miles/Jetblue/$$ for 3-4 nights in the Holiday Inn (priority club points) next door (especially if they'll make reservation and have high status for a room upgrade)

I'm really not in the mood to stay at the Western Dip all the way up in the 200s...(unless theres a lot of kosher food/minyanim that I dont know about - either way I doubt it'll match 41st street, and all minyanim and the kosher food and the restaturant.com GC at Rare Steakhouse, etc.)

Hotel victor in South Beach is also a little bit of a shlep (and too pricey, unless i get a really good deal on a trade- to all you sellers ;)) Plus parking is prob more expensive there.
Anyone have any new creative thoughts about the options? Or a good review of the renovations?

We all would really benefit from a good star* option there.  Miami beach can't be beat.  If only this place has enough rooms up to par, it would change the whole picture.

Where are you getting this idea about cash and points at the Four Points Miami? On spg.com, there is no availability on c&p for the next few months!

Generally Speaking, if the hotel has a lot of availability, like it does on the dates I wanna go, they'll honor C+P just to get another room booked. Of course YMMV,  but calling the hotel directly almost always works if you have a nice conversation with a manager or reservation office. (especially if you're Starpoints Elite gold/plat)

Interesting...so the hotel can book a C&P for you by calling directly even when it doesn't show online?
Which hotels have you done this with?

Who did you speak with at that hotel, that said they will do so? They always say that free nights or c&p can only be booked with the spg.
How do you know on the phone how full they are? They won't tell you they are empty because then you will make them crazy for a good deal.

I know how full they are because i checked on spg.com and saw that every class of room was available on the dates i wanted... and then called the hotel, sounding confident about availability and confirmed with the night front desk attendant who checked on the computer.  He gave me the whole rundown and even told me that based on current trend and reservations, I would prob get one of the nicest rooms in the hotel as a GOLD member if i booked.  He said they were nowhere near full.

BTW, this kind of C+P schtick is googleable...look around.  Especially if you call up and already know the manager's  name from tripadvisor or something and let him know how highly recommended he was by other starmembers, and how professional and accommodating he was for them.

They love to hear it.

I'm also pretty sure that C+P is a hotel thing not a franchise wide decision.  I even asked an SPG operator/reservation person who confirmed it as well.
