Shouldn't be an issue. Though don't have the person checking in running around saying things and don't have them check in with other people.
Non issue. Done many times, specifical at PH NYC. Obviously be smart about it and understand that there officially non transferable.
It would be for my bro. wedding. We'll have to see if we can make that non discreet.

why not go there early in the day and check him in yourself, then when he gets there can go straight to the room.

That is a great idea, but the free night is under my moms name. Fat chance she'll shlep to the city that day, with all the lady prep. for a wedding . Us guys on the other hand, don't have these issues. We'll See what we can do.

Make you the 2nd guest and go down there. Downside is that if he needs another key or something his name is not on the room. Hey try to keep in mind everybody else here....

Want to book a Hyatt Anniversary night but when I called they said the hotel is nearly sold out and only has rooms that the Anniversary night cannot be used for. Is there anything I could do (i.e. call the hotel directly) to work around this? Thanks

If the hotel has a Standard room available for cash purchase, then you might be able to try what TPG did (google/search for the post) where he called Hyatt and read them their own T&C that says if a Standard room is available, then it can be booked with points. Obviously points and free nights are different, but perhaps that method might work.

I think you're confusing this with the 48 hour guaranteed room availability for Diamonds.

Better to use an anniversary night certificate, or book a category 4 for 12,000 points??

Anniversary night. #1 they expire. #2 they usually go for $125 which is less than the value of 12,000 points.

If you cancel an award reservation, does it go back into inventory? (Instantly? At some point?)

IME with Hyatt Baha Mar it did not go back instantly. The room became available a couple days later though. Not sure if it was coincidence or the room going back into inventory.
