If you have an hp 8610 printer DO NOT upgrade yet.

To save yourself frustration, don't upgrade to Win10 yet. Too many issues.

To upgrade to Windows 10:

Quote
GXN is a small utility that helps you upgrade your current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Preview installation to Windows 10 RTM without any waiting or reservation.

This tool provides a few enhancements over the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. As an example, GXN is able to identify and clean up temporary files from previous failed installation attempts, thus lowering the chance of setup not working significantly. GXN will continue receiving updates for the app itself and will always provide the most up-to-date copy of Windows 10 Microsoft offers.

These are the following prerequisites you need for GXN to work properly:

.NET Framework 4.5
Windows 7 or newer
An active internet connection
Administrator rights
Please report any bugs you've found using DMs on Twitter, @Whistler4Ever.

If you want to install Windows 10 on a computer that does not have an internet connection, use this:

Just block automatic updates...
Or schedule a restart time.

Wow, this is insane !

I had something very important to do tonight on my stupid home PC. It's been an hour already of this cr@p.

I meant to do the metered connection thing weeks ago...

Does windows not know that normal ppl use their PC's and are don't appreciate the darn thing shutting down in the middle of nowhere??!!?

Somebody sued Microsoft because of the forced updates and got $10k.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

I find it hard to believe that its still possible to sue them. If they lost a lawsuit, they probably got their backsides covered by now

In that case it was an unauthorized upgrade TO windows 10, and it completely trashed her computer. Something tells me she lost alot more than waiting for a windows update to complete..

There's no option to restart the computer anymore? You have to update to restart??

I haven't tried it, but supposedly if you lock the computer (via WIN-L), you can click the power button and then click Restart.

It's really crazy what Microsoft has done with the update process.

Is there a logical business reason for it?

They're now doing it for Windows 7 and 8.1

This may take a while it true. Might as well take the day off. Bill it to Microsoft.

Eta, I tried again over night, this morning it was stuck in the restart, took out the batter and stuff, ended up completing the install 10 Mon later.
Haven't had time to confirm what works and what doesn't yet
