If you have an hp 8610 printer DO NOT upgrade yet.

To save yourself frustration, don't upgrade to Win10 yet. Too many issues.

To upgrade to Windows 10:

Quote
GXN is a small utility that helps you upgrade your current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Preview installation to Windows 10 RTM without any waiting or reservation.

This tool provides a few enhancements over the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. As an example, GXN is able to identify and clean up temporary files from previous failed installation attempts, thus lowering the chance of setup not working significantly. GXN will continue receiving updates for the app itself and will always provide the most up-to-date copy of Windows 10 Microsoft offers.

These are the following prerequisites you need for GXN to work properly:

.NET Framework 4.5
Windows 7 or newer
An active internet connection
Administrator rights
Please report any bugs you've found using DMs on Twitter, @Whistler4Ever.

If you want to install Windows 10 on a computer that does not have an internet connection, use this:

it asked yes? or now/later ?
I don't know what it said - I was in the middle of typing when it popped up, and I must have typed Enter or Space right then, so it just started the update.

B"H firefox remembered my tabs!!

Task view seems to be pretty cool. I can't see myself using it much, b/c most of the stuff I do is in firefox (in groups), and task view is for organizing applications.

Maybe I'll set up one "desktop" for each of my monitors.

ETA: maybe not :) it hides all the other stuff.

Microsoft Edge (instead of IE) seems nice. Very clean.

I'm still sticking with FF though. For now :).

This is the issue i'm having: before when I opened excel it opened to column "O", now it's opening to column "S" which just comes to show that everything is smaller and it can fit all that on one screen.

ETA: so i realized the problem was in the resolution.

The taskbar is shorter than it used to be. Also I'm used to looking all the way to the left to see what programs I have open, and the new search bar is in the way.

I'm going to look if there's a way to hide it.

Bottom line, is there any compelling reason for me to upgrade from 7?

If you had Windows 8, I'd say to go for it. (Unless you use any software that's not compatible.)

7? I'm not sure yet. Windows 10 is smoother and prettier than Windows 7, but I don't know if it's worth the hassle.

I'll probably upgrade one of my Windows 7 computers today or tomorrow, so I might have more of an answer then.

(FWIW, there was no hassle for me on Windows 8 - all I had to do was give it the 20 minutes it needed, and then click through a few options.) It's pretty easy to get used to - not so confusing like windows 8 was...

My question is slightly different. Is there any way their Edge browser will work with older Windows OS? I do like some of the features they boasted (like annotating on the internet etc.).

That depends on the user. Some i found for myself
1)Speed - its way faster then 7
2) Virtual Desktops
3) Its free now in a year it will cost over $100 you can always go back to 7 if you dont like it.
4) Edge browser is faster then Chrome in almost all tests
5) Cortana  (it automatically tells me if its faster to take the bus or train every morning - lots of other cool stuff in it as well)

link i provided earlier for direct dl from microsoft is down at the moment (well, redirecting to the media tool). probably to free up bandwith. their activation servers are failing as well from the massive amount of people trying.  agav, that means you shouldnt get scared if you dont get activated right away.. give it some time

Just wondering, I reserved a windows 10 upgrade and it was supposed to download today. It doesn't seem to have downloaded. Can it be that it did not download, or it did and I'm just missing something?
