Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

The real answer is that Red Card spoiled a lot of people, especially those who only first began MSing in the past few months and never knew any different. Now you will have to grow up and put on big boy pants.

I mean, I did the $4k with Red Card. How would the gift card method work? I've been reading up on it a little bit, but it seems like I have to pay for each one and I need to figure out which one is the right one and then Red Card still needs to be loadable with it. It just seems like more of a hassle than just buying a couple of plane tickets, and returning them. I mean, would doing it one time really piss Amex off that much?
No one's telling you what to do. Do what you want. You were asking for advice and people gave you thier opinion. Feel free not to take the advice you were given. There is a risk involved that many would not take. Feel free to take it, and I do hope nothing happens.

I'm at Reisterstown. They have confirmed....

Confirmed what? The memo of no more CC?
Wouldn't surprise me, had an issue there last time when I shouldn't have (last step of purchasing a new card).
Also, they started enforcing 1-SSN/person/day for getting RCs. And some of the cashiers had started sending people to CS to do loads because it was taking up too much of their time.

If it goes branch by branch, I won't be surprised if the Towson Target still works with CC, or even Hunt Valley if there's a Target near there.

So how do you know if they haven't heard of it?

Not sure what you're asking... If you're asking how do I know that they don't know about the change in policy, I don't. I'm just saying that they didn't mention anything, as opposed to what happened at other Targets today.

Some genius at my regular Target told them that today is the last day for CCs

Same here, the lady had no clue why there were so many people coming today (didn't get the memo or anything), so this genius in front of me cleared it up for her >:(

Just loaded at OOT target. Bad news and good news. Credit cards are no longer accepted but debit cards are. On the screen that used to say No Target Gift Cards now says No Target Gift Cards or Third Party credit cards. She tried for me any way and it wouldn't accept the CC. But VGC with PIN worked fine.

Non-target maybe?  Need to experiment over the next couple of days. Luckily OOT they are more than happy to help with experiments.

Yup seems to be hard coded! The lady didn't know anything about it. The system just wouldn't apply payment from cc. I didn't have a gc on me to try.

Non-RC city. When I asked the manager yesterday, she hadn't heard of the memo.
