Welcome to the tech age, I have been doing this for a while now...

You were not buying with a secure, tokenized, finger print authenticated, NFC system until yesterday.

Where are the numbers stored?

CC numbers are not stored anywhere. The tokens are generated once when u add the card and then the tokens are stored on a secure chip on the phone, similar to the way fingerprints are stored for TouchID.

Tokens is likely why not all cards work yet - the banks/networks are the ones generating the tokens and need to support it

Why can't the cc# be stored on this secured chip ?

It prob could. But then the CC # would be sent over NFC and could still be hacked any point in the transaction downstream. With tokens, the token is what's being sent so not a big deal if it's hacked or captured bc u can just regenerate the token.

The key question is if you can store you wellsfargo 5X cc and make a 5K purchase from your grocery store with apple pay and still get your 5%.  How can they check your driver's license and match it against your cc?
