What CAn I Do With AMEX Reward Points?
« on: June 01, 2008, 06:49:45 AM »
If I want to transfer Amex reward points to an airline mile program, what is the best value? I have 400,000 points with AA but AMEX points don’t transfer to AA. Thanks in Advance

There's no flat rule. It depends what works best for, where you travel to.

It doesnt make sense to just transfer the points to any program unless you plan on using them.
If you have an idea of what you are trying to do with them (travel to France for example), people may be able to better advise you.

My question really is not so related to what to do with them in a particular instance, rather what type of transfer would make the value per share the highest. For example I would want my AA points to be worth usually at least 3-5 cents-to that end I use them for first class tickets to the states. What is the highest  value I can get my AMEX points to be worth. thanks for all the answers thus far and thanks in advance for any answers.

What we're all saying is that even though you may be able to get the most value for money on Saudi Air, you probably dont need to get to Saudi Arabia. If you generally travel between US & England BA might be a better value than LAN, but if you were going to Brazil then BA is pretty useless. So in other words don't transfer until you are planning a trip.

i spoke to an amex rep who said that if i ever plan on canceling my business gold card, i should make sure to use my mr points    before i cancel, 'cause otherwise i'll lose them. does anyone know if that's true?
if it is true, what are my options before canceling the card?

You could always redeem them for gift cards. Some, like Home Depot for example, are $50 gift card for 5000 points, while most others are $26 gift card for 5000 points.

i would like to use them for travel eventually. is there anywhere i can transfer that i'd still be able to be flexible for future travel?
also, are you confirming that i definitely  lose my points when i cancel?

say i have about 100,000 mr points that i'd like to use for future domestic (florida, denver) flights, is transferring to delta -with 30%bonus- my best option?
or do other alliances have better chance of redeeming miles for reward flights?
also are there any no-fee amex cards (with mr points) that i can apply for?
