Great job SF.
Maybe add instructions for blurring out parts of photos as well.

This should be sticky'd at the top of the Trip destination report category.
True dat. Maybe even in the Start Here board...

Maybe add instructions for blurring out parts of photos as well.

The method I use for blurring is probably too complicated and convoluted for most people here (not to mention lack of Photoshop). 99% of the time covering faces with a simple shape would do the trick.

Here's what I do:
  • Open the image in Photoshop.
  • Duplicate the layer.
  • Create a layer mask.
  • Choose Filters > Mosaic.
  • Enter a value that varies widely, depending on the image size, content to be blurred, relative size of the blurred area, and location within the frame.
  • Using a medium-sized, soft-edge brush I paint over the mask to pixelate only the part of the picture I want.
  • Flatten and save image.

I use actions to do most of the steps automatically. If there's enough interest here I'll see if I could create a Droplet and post a link.

I can't even count the amount of times I've answered this question in one form or another, both on the forums and by PM. I figured I'll write up some detailed instructions and hope people will find this useful.

can i also add video clips from flickr? (the photos work fine with your instructions.)

Not possible in SMF (which powers this forum). For videos I use regular Youtube embedding.

I realized that you started using a different way to upload videos especially in your Hawaii TR, that allows viewers to see the video without opening it. Would mind sharing the way? TIA

These are GIFs:

Premier to edit and trim the video and then Photoshop to create the GIF. Import -> Video frames to layers -> resize to 600px and edit as needed. Then Save for web -> Dither -> Diffuse -> choose either 128 or 256 colors -> Export. Upload to Photobucket since Flickr doesn't handle GIFs properly.

It still doesn't compare to uploading to YouTube, as you're very limited with the length (15-20 seconds is really the max) and the quality is horrendous. But it does make for easier TR reading.

There's a free program called 'photo scape' which is easy and excellent for photo editing, especially for gif's.

Makes sense. If you have Photoshop you can do something very similar without losing the quality.
