I'll call back and just inform the robot that answers the phone that the conversation may be recorded.

I like that, very cute.

Legal or not legal recording a phone call can get results.

Guess in the states its different then...

Anyway back on this topic,
-All World Mastercards have coverage in Israel, don't sweat it.

Thanks Dan. I usually trust you implicitly, but how do you know? It's a big risk if this is just a rumor. Why do they write it may not cover and to ask the rental agency?

Call and ask them for correct literature.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

-All Israeli rental agencies will force you buy 3rd party liability even with a World Mastercard, but they will force you buy more expensive insurances if you don't have a world Mastercard.

w/o a World CC you will need to purchase both 3rd party liability and CDW, the CDW usually has a deductable to it as well , so you can count on paying I think the 1st $500 or they will Gladly sell you a premium CDW that comes w/o a deductable. If you have to buy both  CDW and 3rd party , they will charge you less then what each goes for alone. eg 3rd party is $14 and reg CDW $7, they charge say $18 for both

all they want is that when you drive away the car is covered for both CDW and 3rd party, if you have a CC that covers both then you shouldnt have to buy either, but I havent seen a CC that covers 3rd party so far.

No CC covers 3rd party liability, its not Israel alone , I believe Italy and Ireland have the same policy. And Costa Rica does for sure.

However Avis has now joined Eldan, giving in to the pressure from World MC that if you want to switch CCs when you return the car that the new CC must also pay for the CDW, so no more using a World to rent and then when returning if nothing is damaged switching to Amex. The good thing is my Chase CO World didnt charge me the 3% since the charge was outside the US at least this past time.

They didn't charge you international transaction fee? That's not common. Maybe they got you on the exchange rate?

Nope, in Israel Car Rentals much like Hotels are charged in US$ and stated in US$, so no exchange rate is involved

I've successfully disputed the 3rd party liability amount of ther rental in the past, and am in middle of a dispute between my Continental Presidential Plus Wold Mastercard and my Budget rental made via Expedia.

Dan,

Im curious why you chose to book via expedia rather than straight through budget.com? Did you avoid paying the 3% that way or was there a special deal?
