Would it make sense for him to book on the Chase UR portal since he'd also then be getting all those miles for the trip? Or still better to chance a saver award?

I was thinking of this as well. Since it also shows up as revenue charged ticket. would be almost 10k miles earned per person.

100k jal on af or ba or 104k ana on star alliance.
South african is part of star alliance but i don't know what availability is like.

NYC - HNL
Both United and Hawaiian have first class available.
a) which is a nicer flight?
UA only has with a stop for the way back.
b) UA on UA is 180K round.
HA on HA seems to be 80K round. Is that correct?
c) Is there a better way to book this?
(AwardHacker said Korean air books on HA for 60K round, so I called them.
I left my info with the phone rep and they called me back. They said there's only coach seats available, but on line it looks like Hawaiian has first available.)

When's the flight for? Currently HA is only recliner in F so the UA cabin is def nicer. Is HNL your final destination? Since with Korean you wouldn't be able to add on an interisland without paying extra.
Are you sure you saw HA for 80K RT and not 80K each way?

If you want direct elal is a transfer partner from amex, I'm not sure of the numbers required to book though...

Flight at the end of January for a stay in Honolulu.
UA only has a with a stop to come home, but in F the longer trip won't be a problem.
Should Korean have had access to the HA flight?
On HA, I saw 80K, but I was't sure it was round, because I have no miles. But it seemed to be the final checkout page - they offered to sell me the miles there. (It had 80K for the first leg and then 80K on the final page.)
