Dahab, eygpt
« on: December 24, 2010, 04:57:48 AM »
Recently went to dahab 4 vacation, and although the hotels were reasonably priced, the service was terrible. does anyone know of an spg hotel in the area? i plan on returning there (had a great time!) and i don't want to shlep down to sharm-el-shiek to stay at decent place.

Have you ever shlepped to Sharm-el-shiek because it is definitely worth the shlep, I've been there a couple of times and also in Dahab and there is no comparison.

i was just in dahab at the le meridian and the service was just amazing. upgraded also to an executive suite with backyard with jacuzzi and shower.
ive been to sharm a couple of times and i dont get why aben and chuchem think so highly of it. as far as im concerned the only thing going for it was the amazing dive/snorkel sites, but for the time being, i wouldnt even dip my toe in the water there

It is more of a resort then Dahab, I found that Dahab was much lower class.

dahab is the name of a city. which hotel are you referring to? at the le meridian its pretty "resorty" as well. theres 2 freshwater pools as well as 2 saltwater pools. a coral reef by the hotel beach as well as a dive center located in the hotel. on the beach itself they have these "pods" where 2 people could really just lay the day away looking at the beautiful turquiose water.

Yes i have been to sharm and although u are correct that its more upper class, anything u do there is WAY more expensive. there isn't anything in sharm that you can't get in dahab for a fraction of the price (except the casino). its 2 hours shlep past dahab and i didn't find it much nicer than eilat.dahab is the real thing!

Le meridian is nice, but i found to be way overpriced campared to some other hotels in dahab who average just 10USD a night pp. and why did u go to dahab if ur not gonna dive?! the blue hole is awesome! you'll never see anything so amazing in your life! if u wanted to just chill in a hotel, u could've just stayed in eilat.

youre pretty confusing
first of all i dont think sharm was upper class
secondly its more like 45-1hr past dahab
you complained about service in your first post then called the le meridian overpriced. 4k starpoints for an executive suite is not overpriced in my book.
who said anything about not diving?
and no i didnt dive the blue hole. im not experienced enough. youre telling me you went through the "arch"?

A) you're 100% right! next i will definitly stay at the meridian. i didn't know that its only 4k starwoods points. last time i priced it in dollars and it was over 200$! B) the ride to sharm was around 2 hours in a stifling hot taxi (they don't put on the ac unless u really make them nuts. C) no, i didn't go through the arch, but even so, its worth diving at the blue hole. by far the nicest corals at the red sea.

are you a certified diver?
its not known for having the nicest corals
it took me 2.5-3hrs from taba border to sharm. it took me 1.5-1hr45 from taba border to dahab. which would make dahab-sharm only about 45-1hr

I also think sharm is a nicer place then dahab. Each to his own. The drive should be 45 min. If it took you 2 hours, then... I cant even explain it. There is no traffic, i dont know how its possible

I've only been to Taba (got a stamp and made $60 in the casino) but Google says 90 minutes from sharm to dahab.

It's 103kms.

I suppose if the roads are good enough to drive 140kph on average it could be done it 45 minutes.

The IDF has a number to call where they inform you of the exact security situation in egypt at the time of travel. they'll tell u if they recommend going and will take ur phone number and  call u to come back if they feel its no longer safe.

They dont drive anywhere near 140! my driver was doing tops 90. can we just get someone to time this (in person)?!
