Avis Underage Second Driver?
« on: January 04, 2011, 06:35:33 PM »
If you're a preferred member and you're renting with a corporate, Avis says that all second drivers must be 25. Is there any way around this? Has anyone done this?

Fine so preferred doesn't make a difference, whatever.

Is there a way to get a second driver who is under 25 added onto an Avis rental?

They say if the 2nd driver qualifies for the same corporate then its OK.  So corps like Chabad or Costco members should be OK.
YMMV.

But there is no way to get the second driver on the contract, correct?

And if ch"v something happens will American Express (platinum) cover a guy thats not on the contract (and will be difficult to really prove that he works for the corporate), and will avis cover that liability?

The whole reason I'm asking is because Avis told me that I CANNOT add anyone under 25 as a second driver even if i'm renting with a corporate.

Not if they're under 25.

Not if they're under 25.
i spoke to a representative and she said with this corporate account u r able to have an additional driver (who is under 25) as long as he/she is part of the corporate account. for e.g. if u both work for a company and that company has an account with avis and the account has within it an additional driver than its ok this should help u now that u know it exist.........verify that any account u use has this

@bh
That is pretty much standard across the board, but if you are in an accident c"v you can expect a lot more scrutiny as to your add. driver's relationship with the company behind the corp.

My dad beat up an H3 that I got him with my Avis CHM status.  It was rented via Costco corp. and I was able to officially add him as a driver even after Avis swapped out the broken car for a different one.

The credit card took care of the entire claim without any problem.

I've seen several times mentioned on DD, that using a corp code for which the renter officially doesn't qualify, can get the guy in trouble c"v by an accident.

I was never sure as to how corp and insurance are related.

the way that they are related is through the insurance. the insurance company tries any way possible to weasel out of paying for an accident. so when u use a corporate account that's not urs they invalidate the rental because the contract says something about that in the rental agreement.

thats true about the scrutiny but the reason i posted my earlier post was because i was being question and wanted to confirm what i thought.....they were talking about if the driver is under 25 (second) not in a regular case

not a problem , if the code waives the fee, the lady at avis told me that the additional driver can also be under 25
