Any chance more availability opens up 5/3 or 5/4 before LagBomer to get there on time on United  from DTW. Right now you can only get there at 330 Wednesday afternoon. Going through Frankfurt and returning through EWR.

Consider flying from Cleveland if the flights work better and parking your car for ~$6/day?

I'd think 4 hours before is plenty.
I've taken flights from DTW and PIT several times before. Not the end of the world.

70MPH speed limit.  Can pull off 79 just fine IME and probably make the drive from Southfield to CLE in just a smidge over 2 hours.

+1 only negative thing is the I-75 north is really a boring drive.  But 80mph is great and straight to Southfield.
