I used to be into Schwartz's Herring as that is where my quest started in the US.

Back home (Austria) there would pretty much always be homemade herring which (in my mind) is just a whole different level.

I have however moved on to Raskin Herring as I like the variety and flavor better. My favorite ones are Pepper crusted, Jalapeno Matjes and their Red Pepper.

Any other good flavors, brands or fish worth trying?

Herring-Scotch-Kugel-Cholent-Kishke-Hard Salami-Chopped Liver followed by Lunch.

That is my Shabbos ritual. I love it.

I admire that droolworthy ritual sans kishke. Scotch first though because of the bracha. Love that rough first kiddush club shot.

moishes herring in israel is amazing! moved back to states recently and herring just isnt the same.

Meisners boro park makes their own. On a store bought level, it Puts the others too shame. He only uses a certain type of herring.

That Schwartz is overrated I agree with as well. It's not like its bad but for the rep it gets it doesn't even close to deliver.

Schwartz's went down in quality recently and I don't like it.
Edelmans in Lakewood is by far the best (black pepper matjas) hands down!!
Farm fresh in Lakewood is amazing as well.
