Hilton Head, South Carolina
« on: January 28, 2015, 10:08:54 PM »
Looking at a potential extended family trip to Hilton Head for Labor Day weekend.

Has anyone ever been to Hilton Head that can offer any advice on location, hotels/villas, activities and flights?

If you're flying from NYC Jetblue has very frequent sales to Savannah, GA $59-69 OW, drive is maybe 1hr 15min.  With 4+ people a vacation rental (VRBO, Homeaway, AirBnB) is a must.

With the number of developments and investment properties I'd only use a VRBO/Homeaway.  Check your summer month weather, it's subtropical so the humidity is generally unbearable for at least outdoor activities during the peak summer months.  Also from June-Oct it's hurricane season (especially Sept-Oct).  These two things combined can make for some good deals but it's obviously a trade off.

Also, I must say, I wouldn't worry much about a hurricane.  The geography of the area has made it very unlikely that there's a direct hit.  It's the weather that would keep me away in July/Aug.

Im pretty sure the Omni has been updated after i stayed there... But i would recommend the Westin from the two...

Also its 12k and they have C&P (6k + $110)

Check out the Sonesta Resort it looks beautiful!

You can really do a lot by bike.... But i would still suggest having a car.
It can be useful for day trips to places like Savannah (Jewish Community/Kosher food), or even shopping at outlet malls etc.

Hilton Head is relaxing, picturesque, and historical... here are some activities:

Beaches
Biking Trails/ Biking on the white sand Beaches
Golf/Tennis
Dolphin/Whale Boat Tours
Boat rentals/Kayaking/Jet-skiing & other water sports
Shopping
Baynard Plantation Ruins & other historical sites such as the remnants of civil war era forts, Lighthouse
Savannah is approx. 45 mins away (very beautiful as well, and has Kosher and Minyanim)
