I got declined a cc and see that there is an outstanding medical bill from three years ago on my report.

I contacted the collections agency and told them that the hospital originally made a mistake in their billing and told me they would correct it and the next thing its showing up on my report.
I asked why they didn't contact me they claim they sent me two letters. Maybe I threw out thinking its garbage mail. They told me to dispute it on my credit report now, which i did, with a comment that the hospital said they would bill again etc.
I called the hospital they said no it was billed correctly on two accounts etc. they never made a mistake.
What can I do now to get it off my credit report?

They told me to dispute and have the hospital call them but now the hospital is saying its correct and old and by collections

BBB? Unfortunately its all phone conversations I can not prove anything

Alot of $?

Pardon my asking, but if its only a small sum, may be kdei to pay, especially if you have no proof.

Its a few thousand dollars but of course i plan to pay but its on my credit report
How do I get it off?

Depends how old.

When it's a dormant collection, paying it off will hurt your score since it brings the activity date of the derogatory item to the current month.

Get a deletion letter from the reporting collection agency.

Submit to credit bureaus that it's being reported to.

Make sure you have it in writing that they will delete it for you before you pay it

Does this still hold true?

Family member just found out that he has a $171 medical bill on his CR.

Should he pay?

He first called experion to dispute.

Does he need to call all 3?

The bill was for his daughter, and as a deductible.
