Have seen a small medical bill stay on even after paying it.
Why ?
As a late payment

What should be done to get it off.

I think you can make a deal with them that you will pay it if they tell the CB to delete it entirely from your record. GIYF

What should be done to get it off.
Probably your best bet

I keep on getting a collection letter from a Doc. office.
I have a receipt from a doctors office, stating clearly that the bill has been paid in full.
The first agency that contacted me, had dropped the charge after I sent them the proof.
Now the Dr. office sent it to another agency.
What are my options, to get them to stop harassing me ?

Sue the Dr. office for harassment. Then when they don't pay, send THAT to collections.

Seriously though, call the Dr. office billing dept. and ask them what's going on.

I know whats going on.
In short, wife was told by office that the doc. was in network, and then when app. was done they told her, that they made a mistake, and wanted to charge her.
After some back, and forth they settled on a lesser amount, and she got the bill stating paid in full, with a zero balance.

I was all pissed, and disputed the charge. After 2 weeks, I cancelled the charge back, deciding to just leave it.

The secretary got all upset at me, even though I canceled the charge back, and decided to send the bill to collections.

Hate to say it and maybe it should be a different thread ... it's never a good idea to rush into a chargeback. Merchants would rather work things out directly. Obviously if you tried and have no recourse then do it. I say this because it seems people love to jump to charge backs

+1 and its disgusting that people don't even bother to call before they do a dispute. They don't realize how it hurts a company's CC rates. Besides they are charged a fee.

How long typically does it take them to report it?

One general comment:
When  you get a bill from a collection agency, write them for proof that a)you owe the money  b)they have the authority to collect the debt.
When it's a mistake, that may make them disappear.

If I did not provide the hospital with my Social Security number, do I still need to be concerned the collection will hit my credit report?

I have lots of luck simply negotiating with original company and than with collections

Negotiated a $340 bill down to $79 plus a $5 processing fee

Wasn't worth the risk of it affecting it my credit

Is there a new law that medical collections cannot go on the CR?

Also, when the collections come after me, has it already hit my credit or they still give you a chance to work with them?

They most definitely can go on your CR. IINM you have some time to pay it before it hits your CR even in collections.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

I think the law you may be referring to is that they need to wait 180 days before it can hit your report.
