13 reasons why it's PERFECTLY FINE to buy price mistakes

DOT Update:

http://www.dot.gov/airconsumer/united-airlines-mistaken-fare

United Airlines mistaken fare

The Department of Transportation is aware of an issue involving mistaken fares on United Airlines’ Danish-facing website.  The Department's Office of Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings has begun looking into this matter, including speaking to United and reviewing consumer complaints.  That Office will gather all the relevant facts before making a determination as to whether United is or is not required to honor the mistaken fares.

To file a complaint with the DOT - http://airconsumer.dot.gov/escomplaint/es.cfm

Sample complaint:
-------------------------------------------
To Whom It May Concern,

Yesterday I purchased a flight itinerary from United Airlines via their website: United.com. The flights were booked, I was issued a 'confirmation number' and my card was charged for the full amount of the fare. A short time later United.com indicated that my itinerary was "confirmed and ticketed". I have attached a printout from United.com showing this, as well as a printout of my receipt indicating that the airfare was booked, ticketed and paid for.

Yesterday I was informed by United that they had voided my itinerary. This was done without my knowledge and without my consent.

As such, I ask that you please compel United Airlines to honor the ticket which they sold me, and to provide compensation for their grievance and the inconvenience which it caused me.

Thank you for your consideration and assistance!

Best Regards,
Yosef_S

United is looking into an issue whereby a third-party software provider applied an incorrect exchange rate for tickets sold from the airline’s Denmark website. We have temporarily suspended sales from the Denmark website and are working to resolve the issue with the provider

We will void the bookings for those who purchased tickets as a result of a third-party currency conversion error.

Any guesses whether they'll go after the taxes that were collected at an incorrect rate?

And then they will force me to cancel ? what about 24 hour within booking ?
They aren't going to force you, you will just lose your reservation.

I asked before, forgive me that i am asking again. If they do honor it can I rely that they will let me cancel anytime free of charge?

I remember dan had a great response in the yated about the halachik issues of glitches. I need some help explaining this one to the lor. His issue was with the writing of Denmark as the billing address. He said that since its a sheker, it would prohibit me from benefiting, regardless of whether it was honored or not. What should i respond? Maybe something that the billing address is to verify the credit card- and since its a legitimate credit card, its not really sheker? Or putting in denmark just keeps in it kroner, and since i wanted to pay in kroner i had to keep it in denmark? Any other ideas?

While I understand the glitch to be amazing, I don't know that that part can in anyway not be seen as sheker. Its the billing address. Do you live in Denmark? If not, I don't see how that specific point could be turned and twisted in anyway to be reflected as the truth.

Maybe more something for the ethics thread.

Most of the glitches I've seen the last year and a half have been better with Israel time than American

This is a price mistake though, not a russian ruble esque currency arbitrage thing.

Any guesses whether they'll go after the taxes that were collected at an incorrect rate?
Is the airline liable for taxes that weren't collected properly?

IIRC, taxes aren't actually paid to the government on a per pax basis. Rather they are paid based on average load of pax requiring taxes to be paid. Is this correct?

Go to united, put in conf# and last name to view reservation. Below the total price paid will be a link to cancel reservation. Click on it and you'll see the details for cancelling.

Can you imagine a scenario where someone actually disagrees with your line of thinking and thinks this is actually not proper? Or is that to hard for your closed/small mind to fathom?
