Hotspot: WiFi or Bluetooth?
« on: February 17, 2015, 06:11:18 AM »
When using my iPhone as a personal hotspot for my Windows tablet, I've traditionally always connected the two using WiFi. But both devices also have Bluetooth; is there any benefit to using that instead?

Bt is much much slower data transfer speeds.

Thanks. But let's say I'm being bottlenecked by a slow cellular connection anyway - does Bluetooth have any sort of advantage, such as battery savings or something?

I don't know about iPhone but on my phone connecting with Bluetooth does not give you internet connection
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

You may very well be right but I don't know that as fact and the OP seems to say it does although I've never seen it

Using my Jailbroken iPhone, I have the option to tether over Bluetooth, Wifi or USB.

Tethering over BT only allows you to connect to one device at a time Vs. Wifi that can connect up to 5 (I think).
I haven't seen any decrease in speed, I actually find it to be faster and less troublesome when tethering sometimes.

Bluetooth should also be better on your battery.

Interesting I just found this article

Of course. Otherwise I wouldn't be posting about it here.

I've seen people who didn't realize right away that on their phone Bluetooth won't help because it doesn't have an internet connection... I'm sorry for insulting your intelligence....

Just ran a few tests with the iPhone (have truly unlimited LTE, multiple tries, same file size). It is not jailbroken, it's a built in feature as long as your carrier allows it. I am getting the same speeds as the iPhone itself on Wi-Fi and USB, but only a tenth of the speed on bluetooth!

Yes, bluetooth can transfer an internet connection. My question would be why not?

I've posted a pic that's 12 years old on DDMS of me using a Sony Ericsson T608 with the Bluetooth DUN profile.

Was a very limited edition phone that was never sold online or in store and everyone was shocked that it supported Bluetooth DUN.

Good times.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
