One way Car rentel in europe

I'm looking for a one way car rental in europe, dropping off the car in a different country, I'm getting a €300 surcharge for one way rentals, I tryd all the search engines it comes out very expensive, any advise?

In my limited experience there was no way to get rid of the 1 way fee how about dropping off at the border of 1 country and taking a bus,train,or taxi to the other country and renting another car there. I know it is a hassle but if you want to save money it may be an option.
