Yeah, we know you're a rabid anti-frummie, so enough. In case it went over your head, the thing about peeling coffee beans was a joke. And in case you're actually interested in knowing, the minhag of peeling everything is to remove the outer surface which may have been in contact with chametz. And no one is interested in whether you approve of it.
How do you know what I am? I think a lot of things are silly or pointless, however if I ask my Rav a question I accept his psak halacha... no I did not shop for a rav and true he answers me based on my following of the law but within the letter of the law.
He told me not to use my coffee grinder and french press, they are generally on a counter that is exposed to chametz, so I listened.
But so is my laptop and cell phone.. so why should i just not be able to clean the french press ? truth is really it cost me 36$ to buy a chemex and ive been playing with the chemex and it cost me almost nothing to follow my Rav's word "yehi morah rabba k'morah shamayim"
But here he knows i'll listen and not really care and bh im not starving.
RE: Coffee beans I discussed this with OU Rabbi Nathanson years ago.. told me its fine and sbux beans even without P are fine.
I went with big island shliach Rabbi Avremel Chazanow to a coffee plantation he is mashgiach off and watched them roast.
I still think its dumb to peel everything, ein ledavar sof as I pointed out, you'll just continue on a never ending quest see gemara sotah 22b on 7 types of perushim and related commentaries
